Mosquito Control

The number one pest all around the world…

Do you want to know which pest is responsible for the death of one million people annually, and responsible for aggravating millions around the world? Further, this insect is a big spreader of disease, such as, West Nile virus, elephantiasis, dengue fever, yellow fever and many more horrid diseases. Have you guessed yet? It’s everyone’s favorite, “The famous Mosquito!”

Tick_Control_2The mosquito plagues all animals with its thirst for blood meals. By familiarizing yourself with the mosquito’s life cycle, you can help prevent mosquitoes from taking occupancy around your home. Most important is to be aware of how mosquitoes thrive and that they need water to survive. This knowledge will better help you control their breeding ground outside your home. There are 4 different stages of a mosquito’s life. It starts as harmless little egg, and develops into larva, next the pupa (resting, non-feeding stage), and lastly we see the adult. The life cycle usually takes up to two weeks, but can range from four days to as long as a month and it depends on water temperature, food and type of mosquito.
Were you aware that actually only the female mosquito bites and feeds on people and animals? After she feasts on us she will lay her eggs by the soil near the water edge. Eventually the eggs fall into the water and the life cycle begins again.
But now here’s where things get scary! Mosquitoes become infected with diseases when they feed on a person or animal already infected with a pathogen. Infected mosquitoes can spread pathogens such as a virus, or bacteria or protozoa to other people through bites. Mosquitos spread the West Nile Virus, where people can get a fever, flu-like symptoms, and feel worn out. A few people get a more serious infection that causes brain swelling, or meningitis. However, there’s a very small chance you could die! Another deadly virus that is spread by mosquitos is Encephalitis which causes inflammation around your brain and spinal cord.

The Zika Virus is another pathogen that many people are becoming more aware of lately. This virus is related to dengue, yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, and West Nile viruses, and is spread by the same mosquitos.
Zika virus infections display with symptoms and signs of fever, joint or muscle pain, pinkeye, or a rash. It has been linked to more problems cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome and a birth defect called microcephaly. Although in the news recently it was first seen in the 1950s has been known to occur within a narrow equatorial belt from Africa to Asia. In 2014, the virus spread eastward across the Pacific Ocean to French Polynesia, then to Easter Island and in 2015 to Central America, the Caribbean, and South America, where the Zika outbreak has reached pandemic levels.

How to Eradicate Fleas

Regal pest control provides service for the safe control and removal of fleas. If you notice your pet is scratching excessively, losing patches of hair or developing scabs and hot spots, then your pet could have a significant problem with fleas. If you find fleas on your pet, it would be safe to say they’re going to be in your house, in your yard and probably on you. Fortunately, there are natural and chemical products to both protect your pets and rid your home of fleas.

Before taking action you must first determine where the infestation came from. If you discover that the primary source of the infestation came from your pet, be sure to give your pet a flea bath to eliminate the fleas that are currently living off your pet. To avoid infesting your pet again, keep your pet outside your home until your home is completely flea free.

Before choosing a treatment, make sure to clean your home thoroughly. Use hot water when cleaning your bedding, towels, and anything your pet lies on. Further, vacuum all floors and sofas within the home. Be sure to empty your vacuum outside so that none of those unwanted pests make their way back into your home. After you have completed a major cleaning, you will then be ready to start your flea treatment.

There are two methods that may be applied to eliminate fleas from your home, natural or chemical. Let’s first take a look at some safe and natural ways we can eradicate fleas. Sticky flea Pads and electronic traps are similar to the fly paper that many households used decades ago. Plug in an electronic trap near the locations that are severely infested with fleas. Fleas are attracted to the trap; over a period of weeks they get stuck on the paper. Unfortunately, this process takes a long time to eradicate fleas and appears extremely unsanitary. Be prepared to use traps for a significant period of time to ensure all fleas are captured and that you bathe all animals in the home to reduce the number of parasites living off your pet. Another nontoxic method recommended to treat flea infestations, particularly when there are animals living in the household are boric-acid-based products. Boric acid is not toxic to people or animals, but it kills fleas. When boric-acid-based products are applied to carpets and throughout the infected household, the extremely fine particles of boric acid work their way into carpets and are not easily sucked up by vacuum cleaners. After applying boric-acid on your carpet use a broom to work it down into the fibers, then vacuum off any excess. As fleas come in contact with the particles they quickly die. It is extremely important to vacuum the floors regularly to reduce the dead fleas that are in your carpet.Fleas

Also, many health-conscious individuals choose to use Nylar or otherwise known as pyriproxyfen, to eradicate a flea infestation. Nylar works well in homes that have tile, wood or linoleum flooring. Nylar regulates the growth of fleas and is commonly used where pets spend most of their time. Nylar only needs to be applied once a year to clean up a flea infestation. Nylar mimics the juvenile flea hormone, preventing young fleas from becoming adults. It also stops flea eggs from hatching, reducing flea populations drastically. Another favorable treatment is the homemade rosemary flea dip; a recommended holistic cure for canine flea infestations. First place two cups of fresh rosemary sprigs in boiling water for half an hour, strain the liquid and add it to a gallon of warm water. When the solution is warm, but not too hot, pour it on a flea-infested dog and let the dog air dry. Lavender essential oil can serve as a natural flea killer as well when applied to dogs. Simply place a couple of drops of oil at the back of the neck and a few at the base of the tail to control flea infestations. A few drops of lavender oil can also be applied to baseboards in areas where flea infestations are troublesome. After consulting your pet’s veterinarian to find out the correct dosage, brewer’s yeast is another non-toxic solution for treating your dog for fleas directly. In fact, natural living experts claim that one small tablet or spoonful of Brewer’s yeast added to your dog’s food will make him taste repulsive to fleas. Apple cider vinegar is another canine-only flea controller since it has a particularly strong odor and would leave the home smelling particularly foul if it was used throughout the home. By adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to your dog’s water bowl will make them taste terrible to fleas and reduce the likelihood of a flea infestation. Warm and soapy water is another non-chemical solution. Simply place a dish of warm soapy water beneath a night-light. The fleas will be attracted to the warm light, but they won’t be able to swim in the soapy water and will drown.

Last but not least, lemon spray is known to be another natural flea repellent. After a whole lemon is quartered and steeped in boiling water overnight; strain out the lemon pieces in the morning and spray the solution on your dog or around your household in areas where fleas gather.
